Our brain is like a muscle that needs to work out otherwise it just shrivels up. Brain fitness has two basic principles: variety and curiosity. When anything you do becomes second nature, you need to make a change. You need to change your routine once in a while because your brain tends to become dull without any new challenges or problems to solve.Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to make huge changes in your lifestyle to exercise your brain but small changes such as taking a different route to work or school or even changing your usual breakfast can help more than you think. You must be thinking how on earth is this even going to help? This simple task will cause your brain to lay down some new pathways and rethink daily tasks. Wearing your watch or rings on your other hand and performing daily tasks such as eating or opening the door from your non-dominant hand can help you create a sense of challenge that can exercise your mind.

This is probably the most common suggestion but an important one because it not only improves your imagination but also helps you better your vocabulary and can help you relax as a way to wind down. Reading even a few pages of your favorite genre be it fantasy or biography can help you increase your focus and cause your brain to develop.


  1. Observation Games

Each day pick a specific thing to observe. You may decide to pay attention to what people are wearing one day. Everywhere you go, and on TV, note how people dress and think about why certain people dress the way they do. Give your brain something to think about. The next day, choose something else to observe.


  1. Learn Phone Numbers

We are too reliant on our technology that we do not pay attention to small things such as phone numbers which is a bad thing in case of emergencies. Learning phone numbers will not only help your memory but also help you not be dependent on your phone in case you run out of battery or any such instances.


We love our routines. We have hobbies and pastimes that we could do for hours on end. But the more something is 'second nature,' the less our brains have to work to do it. To really help your brain stay young, challenge it. All this will force your brain to wake up from habits and pay attention again.
